 🎮 Game Review: eFootball

eFootball is a free-to-play football simulation game developed by Konami, and it is the spiritual successor to the PES (Pro Evolution Soccer) series. It focuses mainly on online matches, team building, and live seasonal updates.

⚽ Gameplay

The gameplay is one of the strongest parts of eFootball. Passing, dribbling, and ball control feel more realistic compared to many arcade-style football games. When it works well, matches feel tactical and rewarding, especially in 1v1 situations and skill-based play.

However, it is not perfect. Some players complain about inconsistent AI movement, defensive errors, and occasional “scripted” or unbalanced moments in matches.

🧠 Game Modes

eFootball focuses heavily on online play:

  • Dream Team (squad building mode)
  • Ranked matches and divisions
  • Seasonal events
  • Limited offline content (compared to older PES games)

A common criticism is that it lacks deep offline modes like Master League (a fan favourite from older PES titles).

💰 Free-to-Play System

One of its biggest advantages is that it is completely free to download and play. You can build strong teams without paying, but spending money on player packs or “epic” cards can give faster progress.

🎨 Graphics & Presentation

The graphics are decent and improved over time, especially player models and animations. However, menus and UI are often criticised for being simple and not very polished compared to competitors.

🌐 Online Experience

Online matches are the main focus, but performance can depend on servers and connection quality. Some players enjoy smooth gameplay, while others experience lag or inconsistency.

👍 Pros

  • Free to play
  • Realistic football mechanics
  • Good ball physics and movement
  • Regular updates and events

👎 Cons

  • Limited offline game modes
  • Inconsistent gameplay at times
  • Heavy focus on online and microtransactions
  • UI/menu design feels basic

⭐ Final Verdict

eFootball is a solid football simulator for online play, especially if you enjoy building teams and competing against real players. However, it still feels like a “work in progress” compared to fully polished football games.

Rating: 7/10 ⭐
